OVERVIEW
Rebecca “Rebe” Malaret, a seasoned film and television producer, is defined by her commitment to inclusivity and the elevation of underrepresented voices, showcased through her work. From her humble beginnings creating short films in her childhood basement, she evolved into a USC Stark graduate and experienced producer, demonstrating her flair for problem-solving and innovative thinking.
She recently worked on the development team at the Emmy-award winning production company Boardwalk Pictures, renowned for acclaimed series such as WELCOME TO WREXHAM, CHEF’S TABLE, CHEER, THE BIG BRUNCH, PEPSI, WHERE’S MY JET?, and LAST CHANCE U. With a career spanning various facets of the industry, Rebe has made significant contributions to notable projects across the entertainment landscape.
Upon moving to Los Angeles, she played a pivotal role in championing artists of color, organizing high-profile events at major festivals like Sundance and Cannes. This drive led her to transition to development at Cold Iron Pictures (SWISS ARMY MAN, DON’T THINK TWICE), where she balanced executive assistant duties while producing short films in her free time, refining her storytelling craft.
Armed with an MFA from USC's Peter Stark Film & Television Producing program, she combines her formal education with hands-on experience to push boundaries and redefine the industry's narrative. During her master's studies, she made significant contributions to Film & TV Development at Hello Sunshine with THE MORNING SHOW and LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE, and at JuVee Productions with THE FIRST LADY. She also played a key role in programming at ARRAY, contributing to groundbreaking series like COLIN IN BLACK & WHITE and QUEEN SUGAR. Additionally, she worked in Web Production at CherryPicks, a digital brand committed to highlighting the female critical voice in film.
Rebe's passion for storytelling and dedication to championing diverse voices trace back to her formative years as an intern and staff member at the Virginia Film Festival, a program of the University of Virginia (UVA). A proud former UVA cheerleader, Rebe earned her undergraduate degree in Media Studies and Arts Administration from UVA in 2018. Notably, she spearheaded the creation of UVA's first film production major through the arts administration program, with a minor in Leadership from the McIntire School of Commerce, laying the foundation for a career aligned with her deep-rooted humanist values.
